An important step in setting up WordPress (or other blogs for that matter) is to supply a good pinglist which let’s different services know when you publish a new post. By default WordPress only seems to include Ping-o-matic, but the more services you have in your ping list the better. Regularly updated blogs rank better, so letting search engines know about your updates is a must-do!
The following list can be copied and pasted in your Settings->Writing section where you have the box for update services. Alternatively, consider installing the cbnet Ping Optimizer plugin (which only pings on new posts not on edited posts, preventing your blog from getting banned from ping services.)
This is an updated list for 2011 that I found here, done by someone who’s put in the hard yards checking which ping services are still valid. There’s extra ping services for adult sites there too if you need them.
